Le mois de décembre était bourré d’activités excitantes au sein de la bibliothèque! Bon nombre de nos élèves ont participé au projet international intitulé « Écouter Lire le Monde 2013 ». Bref, le projet visait à créer des liens entre les élèves de partout sur la planète autour d’une même histoire pour qu’ils puissent partager leurs appréciations.
Les 3e années ont lu une collection d’albums d’Andrée Poulin, notamment « Qui sauvera Bonobo? », « Le meilleur/pire endroit », « Sous le lit de Loulou » et « Une maman pour Kadhir ». Les 4e années se sont bien amusés en lisant le roman « Où sont passés les zippopos? », écrit par la même auteure.
Poulin a été tellement bien choisie comme auteure en raison de sa créativité, de son humour et de son talent pure et simple! Les élèves se sont inspirés de son style dans le but de créer leurs propres mini-textes.
Par la suite, les élèves se sont bien amusés en partageant leurs impressions sur les ondes de Twitter. Vous pouvez revisiter leurs « tweets » en consultant #elm13. Ils ont surtout aimé le feedback et les exemples des autres élèves qui y participaient!
L’aventure est devenue encore plus extraordinaire grâce à la générosité de la bibliothèque de Newmarket… Les élèves ont été invités afin de rencontrer Andrée Poulin. Quelle belle occasion inoubliable!
Lors de la visite, Poulin a partagé sa passion avec les 3e années tout en expliquant le processus incroyable qu’elle suit dans la publication d’un texte. Les élèves ont saisi l’importance de la planification, du brouillon et de toute la « pré-production ». Il faut dire que ce ne sont pas toujours les étapes préférées des élèves! La foule s’est vraiment excitée en voyant les illustrations et leur développement, surtout nos « artistes ».
L’autobus est retourné à l’école en bourdonnant. Depuis notre rencontre, les livres d’Andrée Poulin sont rarement disponibles à la bibliothèque et les élèves attendent impatiemment l’arrivée du projet « Écouter Lire le Monde 2014 ».
December was a very busy month in the library, full of exciting activities! Many of our students participated in a very special French Global Read Aloud project. The main goal was to create connections between students from around the world through common stories. Focussing on similar texts would allow them to share and compare their thoughts and impressions.
The Grade 3 classes read an incredible collection of picture books written by Andrée Poulin: « Qui sauvera Bonobo? », « Le meilleur/pire endroit », « Sous le lit de Loulou » and « Une maman pour Kadhir ». The Grade 4s continue to enjoy a novel read aloud entitled « Où sont passés les zippopos? », written by the same author.
Poulin was the perfect choice of author given her incredible creativity, humour and simple talents! The students had a great time reading her texts and were often inspired by her style. They even created their own mini-texts, all while following in the author’s footsteps.
Thereafter, the students continued to celebrate the Global Read Aloud by sharing their work via Twitter. You can revisit their “tweets” using the hashtag #elm13. They really enjoyed the feedback and other examples they received from participating classes.
Their incredible adventure became even more extraordinary thanks to the unbelievable generosity of the Newmarket Public Library… The Grade 3 classes were treated to a very special meeting with none other than Andrée Poulin herself! What an unforgettable opportunity!
During their visit, Poulin shared her passion all while explaining the challenging process involved in publishing a book. The students gained great insight and have a much better understanding of the importance of planning, rough drafts and everything else related to “pre-production”. Needless to say, these are not always their favourite steps in the writing process! The crowd became very excited once Mme Poulin shared the steps involved in illustrating her texts. She shared some gorgeous illustrations from draft to final product… Our budding artists were dumbfounded!
The bus returned to school brimming with excitement. Since our author visit, Andrée Poulin’s texts are rarely available and the students are impatiently waiting for next years Global Read Aloud!
